Create an inclusive classroom for all with these fun and accessible activities for PSHE, Citizenship and Religious Education lessons. Each lesson is tailored for children working below National Curriculum levels and includes a learning objective, the resources needed, the main activity, a plenary and a consolidation activity to help support children's understanding. These subjects are key to teaching children the concepts of self-awareness, independence and community, which can be difficult to teach to children with SEN but are vital for their self-esteem and mental wellbeing.
The activities in this book have been specifically designed to promote fine and gross motor skills and utilise lots of visual stimulus, which is important for working with children with SEN. This straightforward and practical book offers you 101 creative classroom activities for teaching Citizenship, PSHE and Religious Education to pupils who are working below national curriculum levels, as well as mapping the range of additional skills they will acquire.
Tracy Edwards, Associate Director of Teaching School, Swiss Cottage School, Development & Research Centre
This book is great for those days when the sheer volume of teaching resources online gets too overwhelming. There are a range of simple and creative ideas for classroom activities, which educators can easily sieve through, and adapt for children in their own classes. For teachers who are new to teaching Religious Education, this book also offers some helpful ways to introduce faith and belief into the classroom, and start to implement a locally agreed RE syllabus.
Jamie Galpin, Developmental Psychologist at The Bridge London Trust
As with the other titles in the series 101 Inclusive & SEN Citizenship, PSHE & Religious Education Lessons provide a fantastically clear, simple and practical resource that can be used by teachers in all settings. Whilst there are specific learning objectives for each activity, the implicit focus of them all is on the development of self-concept and mental wellbeing. That the book covers these vital areas with activities that are fun and engaging is testament to the extensive practical experience Claire and Kate have in walking the talk.
James Malone, Deputy Headteacher Hollingworth Primary School
This book will prove invaluable to all teachers. The lessons and activities are well thought out, well structured and easily resourced, reducing the workload of teachers and ensuring that all children can be fully included in their R.E., PSHE and Citizenship lessons.
Virginia Truss, special needs teacher
What a great resource for a busy teacher! I have always found PSHE and RE sessions tricky within a special setting, but this book helps with the different aspects of these subjects and makes it work for children with SEND. The layout makes it easy to flick through the book to find ideas or activities that you are looking for.
This book includes aspects of mindfulness and wellbeing which is so important for my class and the inclusion of gongs etc. is something I hadn't thought of before!
